Fears & Phobias

One of the most common reasons people visit a hypnotist is to overcome fears or phobias. That’s okay though! Fears, phobias, anxiety and stress are a natural part of life.

Everyone fears something. Some may worry about being robbed or perhaps suffer from painful accident. This type of fear is not necessarily a bad thing. Taking precautionary measures, such as locking doors or wearing safety belts, should be a welcomed edition to everyone’s lives.

Most phobias stem from childhood, but they can also manifest itself into adulthood. Some adulthood fears are caused by chemical imbalances such as a hypoglycemic reaction. Others originate from repressed memories.

Determining whether a fear is physical or psychological trauma could be by the duration of a reaction. Psychological reactions are usually triggered by anticipation and become less intense once the anticipated event begins. Physical reactions immediately become intense once triggered.

Experiencing fear can be a terrifying ordeal, especially if you begin to fear losing control of yourself. When a person goes out of their way to avoid any triggers of their fear, it has become a phobia. (Keep in mind, a fear may also be considered a phobia if you are unable to identify the triggers that cause the terrifying sensations.)

Mild cases: When a person recognizes the triggers but would like help controlling their reaction. Post-hypnotic suggestions will aid patients to control their breathing, slow their heartrate, and achieve a relaxed state of mind. This permits them to deal with the problem in a calm and rational manner.

Severe cases: They are often the result of a traumatic childhood event. Most times, the event can no longer be recalled by the conscious mind but is still retained in the subconscious. Once the cause is revealed, the fear of losing control is eliminated. Once a sense of control is established, repeatedly confronting the fear through hypnotherapy quickly reduces and soon eliminates the fear.

Hypnosis is a tool for mental health. Identifying and confronting fears are not an easy task for anyone to do alone. There is help out there, and I am happy to apply knowledge as a hypnotist to overcome any form of mental distress one session at a time.
